International Women's Day: Women in Design

International Women’s Day is March 8^th but today and every day we are celebrating the fantastic, talented Canadian women in the interior design industry. There are so many incredible women in this unbelievably demanding line of work, it’s hard to narrow down such a dynamic list. We have selected just a few to focus on today, but we strongly encourage everyone to celebrate our exceptionally talented Women in Design – each and every day.

Nicole Babb is first on our list. Nicole, Toronto-based designer, founded her design firm R&P Home in 2015 with her best friend Flo. Nicole’s design style focuses on bold colours and textures – far from the beige homes we so often see these days. Now hosting HGTV’s Styled with designer and stylist Caffery Vanhorne, we are lucky enough to get a deep dive into her styling and design process. Nicole is a multi-ethnic woman; you can see that her Chinese and Afro-Guyanese-Caribbean background drives much of her design style. We are constantly inspired by Nicole’s fresh approach to design and can’t wait to see what she does next. 

 


Tiffany Leigh Piotrowski is another interior design favourite. Newer to the industry, Tiffany founded her design firm in 2019. Hailing from Ontario’s KW region Tiffany first studied English at the University of Guelph and after graduating, went on to get a Bachelor of Interior Design. After working with Sara Richardson Design for over five years, a change in location inspired her to take a step out on her own. Tiffany describes her design style as California meets Little House on the Prairie. Her focus is for her interiors to be livable, warm and inviting – we couldn’t agree more.

 

Elizabeth Metcalfe sets the bar high for interior design. Her studio, founded in 1999, has garnered many national and international awards. Elizabeth Metcalf believes ‘a home should enhance happiness, support well-being and positively contribute to a fully enjoyable life while defining a meaningful expression of a place’. Her studio produces meaningful, beautiful and original interiors, ones that quite literally take your breath away. We are inspired by her and her teams strategic and collaborative approach to design. You can see in each interior, no detail is left untouched. 

We find we are surrounded by strong women every day here at Goemans, both in our own workplace and the industry we work in. It takes strength and tenacity to be successful the way these women are. We are always inspired by them and those women around us.
