Fun and Free Things To Do This Winter

Winter is around the corner and instead of letting the cold and gloominess let us down, we believe we should try to make the most of it by doing all the fun stuff that only winters have to offer. There’s a lot to look forward to during winters, a warm cup of cocoa in the evening, playing in the snow, the moonlight on the white wonderland during the night, and more! Also, if you think that you won’t find fun outdoor activities to do anymore, we have got your covered there. Take a note of all the fun things you can do with your friends and family this winter that wouldn’t need you to reach into your pockets.

Ice Skating

One of the best things to do in the Winter is go ice skating in an outdoor skating rink, especially in the evening. If you’re also looking for an adventure at the same time, you can find an outdoor skating trail close to you and skate through the wildlife. Harbourfront Centre, Nathan Philips Square, Dufferin Grove Rink, and the Skating Oval are some popular outdoor rinks in Ontario. Arrowhead Provincial Park, Sam Smith Park, Richmond Skate Trail, and Rideau Canal are some amazing skating trails in Ontario.

Star Glazing at Torrance Barrens

This dark sky reserve in Ontario offers a surreal view of the Northern Lights, especially on nights with a clear sky. Drive up to this secluded, cozy spot near Muskoka, with some sheets and blankets, and lie down with nature to enjoy a beautiful winter evening under the stars.

Experience Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls is a majestic piece of attraction any time of the year. But it looks like a paradise during the winters, with the snow-covered trees, floating ice over the water, and fewer people than usual. When some parts of the falls appear to be frozen, it’s a view like no other, especially after dark with those colourful lights being reflected on it. Also, don’t forget Canada’s largest lights festival, the Festival of Lights that begins November 13th this year and features an eight-kilometre-long route.

Go Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing is like going hiking during the winters, with special, wide surfaced shoes to help you walk on the snow. There are so many parks in Ontario that offer amazing trails for snowshoeing. Whether you’re an active hiker missing your summer/fall hikes, or you’re a beginner and want to experience snowshoeing for the first time, you can find so many options close to you, suited to your level of experience. Windy Lake Provincial Park, Frontenac Provincial Park, Wasaga Beach Provincial Park, and many more.

Visit a Winter Festival

Winter brings so many Winter carnivals and events with it, all-over Canada. While a lot of these might happen around Christmas, there are several that start from November itself. Canada’s Wonderland’s WinterFest, Toronto’s Christmas Market, Niagara’s Festival of Lights and so much more to look forward to.

 Try Sledding

Have you ever tried sledding/tobogganing? It’s so much fun for people of all ages. Take a sled or even just a slippery sheet or garbage bag to a slope in a park covered in snow and slide down like you have no care in the world. It makes you feel so alive and brings back so many cheerful childhood memories.

Don’t spend the entire winter by the fire, watching your favourite movies/shows with a cup of hot of cocoa. Every once in a while, step out of the house and enjoy these extremely fun activities and make the most of the nature’s wonderland!
