Miele Vacuums

I have had my Miele vacuum since 2008 and I have to say, I never dreamed that I would gush over a vacuum, but I absolutely have. At my first Miele product training that same year, I was very skeptical that it would hold up to all the Miele Product Trainer said and I shared my doubts with her. I have dogs – Huskies among other breeds over the years, so vacuuming is about daily in my world. I tried several other big names and no matter how much I spent, I had to deal with a loss of suction and clogs of fur - and not one lasted me more than 2 years. 

The Miele trainer was so certain that I had met my match in a Miele vacuum, that she offered to loan me her own so I could try it out. I didn’t take her up on her offer, but it left an impression with me and I decided to go for it and get one of my own. Now it’s been 15 years of heavy use, with multiple pets, kids, carpet, hard wood, tile, and area rugs of varying piles - and it’s still running strong.

Miele makes a few different styles of vacuum – canister with or without dust bags, cordless stick, or robot. Whatever your preference and your flooring, they have a solution for you.

Canister Vacuums (with and without dustbags)

There are compact and full size versions for use with or without dustbags. “Hard Floor” models for homes without carpet, and “Total Care” or “Cats and Dogs” for those with carpet and/or pets. The major differences come down to the floor head – for hardwood/tile, for light carpet work, or with a beater bar for wall to wall or thick pile area rugs. To go full size means the crevice tool, dust brush and upholstery brush are stored on board inside the canister – love that! The compact models still provide these tools, stored on a caddy which can attach to the wand. One feature I feel is worth going to the top model for is the floor brush. To be able to adjust the height of the power driven floor brush is key for guaranteed happiness running it over various piles of carpet. It handled our shag rug in front of the fireplace when others would bunch up and get caught. Retractable cords. Great suction. Quieter. Very maneuverable.

Dustbag

These bags are serious. They have more layers than other brands and work really well to keep all allergens trapped away. They are meant to get full, like really full before you change them so the cost of bags is not a concern. Even with daily vacuuming, and with my dogs, I change mine once every 3 – 4 months on average.  

Bagless

Miele came out with their first bagless lineup a few years ago and have added the compact size to this line. Finally - a bagless vacuum that does not send a cloud of dust when you empty it! AND no filter to pull out of the mess yourself ….no need to shake clean a filter outside! Models with “Comfort Clean” even use sensors that automatically clean the dust filter. The bagless models are of a newer line, so they’ve also upgraded the already pretty fantastic wheel systems so that the vacuums maneuver even better than they already did.  

Cordless Stick Vacuums

The Triflex series is the ultimate in flexibility. The name says it all – it’s 3 ways flexible. The power unit can be attached to either the top or the bottom of the wand, or alone to create a compact handheld option too. At the top for “Reach Mode” for maximum reach under the bed or couch, or down low for “Comfort Mode” making it lighter weight, and “Compact Mode” with just a tool attachment directly on the power unit for a compact handheld for the car or anywhere. Keeping your battery charged is about as flexible as the vacuum. There is a wall bracket to hang it up, store it and charge it. You can charge it with the power unit in either position and if you don’t want to install the wall bracket anywhere, the battery and charger can simply plug in anywhere separate of the vacuum. Just like with the canister models, there are models to choose from for your own floor needs. Among them are “cats and dogs” models again, and there are “Pro” models that have a second battery for up to 120 minutes of non-stop vacuuming fun to be had. I have been eyeing these since they were first released about 2 years ago but of course mine is still going strong. 

Robot Vacuums

I mean who wouldn’t love the vacuuming to be done for them? Miele has two models to do it for us. Both are quiet little guys that can do the dirty work without disturbing anyone and the compact design means they can run under the bed or couch and most other furniture that is hard to reach with a typical vacuum. They have 3D navigation to detect objects and maximize cleaning, handle transitions over different floor surfaces and door thresholds up to 17 mm and with digital mapping of the house and the Miele Scout app you can even program areas you wish your robot to ignore or focus on. The “Home Vision” model has an added feature allowing you to connect from your phone for a live image feed. Both models have a run time of 117 minutes and the genius of them ….they can recharge themselves, sensing a low battery they return to their charging station.
