A few years ago chest freezers seemed to be all the rage. They have great storage capacity and fit well into garages and basements, easily storing large packages of meat, frozen dinners and endless bags of French fries. Now, upright stand-alone freezer are where it’s at. Serving the same purpose as your typical chest freezer, upright freezers are easier to organize, take up less floor space and fit nicely into pantries when needed.
If you’re in the market for a new freezer, or are just curious about the various options, today we’re taking a good look at the 20.2 Cubic Foot Upright Freezer. Let’s start with the basics.
Frigidaire 20.2 cu. Ft. Upright Freezer
Model: FFFH20F2QW
Capacity.
This particular freezer has a 20 cubic foot capacity, which is on the larger side of the stand-alone upright freezers. Typically, larger upright freezers are built in, which can be considerably more expensive. This one has ample amounts of storage capacity, some reviewers claiming it can store an entire cow, which most uprights cannot.
Frost-Free.
Another great feature is the frost-free operation option. Most chest freezers frustrate customers because of having to manually defrost them which takes time and energy. This Frigidaire freezer doesn’t require you to manually defrost it, so you can focus on more important things in your life – like how you’re going to store a whole cow in your freezer.
Energy.
Frigidaire boasts this freezer is 24% more efficient than their 2013 models. It’s unclear how efficient their older models were however, but it is Energy Star Certified, meaning it is officially an energy efficient appliance – which is always a plus!
Features.
If you’re concerned with knowing if your freezer is working or not, this freezer includes a handy green power light to indicate just that. In addition, the freezer includes a lock with pop-out key, ensuring that you never lose the key again and don’t have to leave it hanging in the door for little hands to grab. The adjustable temperature controls allow you to keep your frozen items at a desired temperature, or you can adjust throughout the seasons as it gets warmer and colder in your part of the world.
Cons.
With anything you purchase, there can always be negatives. We never want to sugar coat our reviews since it’s not always realistic to get a 5-star rating. Though we totally love this freezer, there are some things to consider. A few customers have commented that the seal on the door is really strong – this can be a positive or a negative depending on your mobility and strength. Others mention it can be quite loud at times, though this isn’t a consistent comment, it might be worth considering where this freezer will be placed – a garage or basement might be ideal. One last con some people pointed out was that the shelves can be a bit flimsy. That being said, the users typically admitted to overloading their shelves out of necessity and seeing a bit of sagging take place.
Bottom Line.
Overall we love this Frigidaire Freezer. Upright with large storage capacity, defrost-free and energy efficient. The price is manageable as well, and we’ve seen it go on sale from time to time as well. It’s simple, efficient and keeps your food organized and frozen. For us, it’s a no brainer.
There are so many appliances out there to suit so many different needs, it’s easy to get overwhelmed and lost. As we always say, before buying an appliance it’s important to think about how you’ll use it, who will use it and why. Thinking about your specific needs is where you need to start. If there’s only two of you in your family, you likely don’t need a large capacity freezer (unless you’re storing whole cows). If you have back issues and trouble leaning over often, a chest freezer is likely out of the question. Consider you needs and the needs of your family and then visit your local Goemans Appliances, and we’ll take care of the rest!
