New Year’s Eve looks a little different this year. While most bars and restaurants have been closed in Ontario temporarily, it’s the year to get creative at home. We have some fun suggestions on how to host an intimate celebration to help you welcome in 2021. If you don’t feel like cooking, don’t forget to check out your local favourite restaurants as well, many are offering delivery and takeout menus for New Year’s Eve and definitely need your support right now!
Get Fancy
Bummed about missing out on your ballgown and gala dinner traditions? Get dressed up anyways! Why not put on your fanciest outfit, watch classic movies or a concert online and pretend you’re enjoying a beautiful night out! New Year’s Eve at home doesn’t have to be boring.
Cook A Feast
This is a fun option paired with getting fancy OR separately. Get out your favourite cookbook and pick a few recipes you’ve always wanted to cook but made excuses to avoid. Create a menu for you and your family, get the kids involved and cook up a storm. Pair each course with different wine or beer, light the candles, put on some tunes and enjoy your hard work!
Netflix & Chill
This is an easy one and one of our favourites, to be completely honest. Our suggestion to change things up? Pick a fun series of movies: Harry Potter, Die Hard, Despicable Me and watch them all throughout the night. Pop some popcorn, get your favourite bottle of wine and get in your PJ’s and hang out. Spending it with the kids? Build a pillow fort you can all hang out in together!
Host a Zoom Party
Missing your friends? Host a Zoom Party! Get prepared ahead of time and drop off a fun activity for your friends to do at their houses, when New Year’s Eve comes you can get together on Zoom and do the activity together. House Party is another great app you can use for group chats, it has build in games you can do together as well!
Want another neat virtual idea? Host a cooking class with your friends. Each of you can select a recipe that you all cook (virtually) together. Send out the grocery list ahead of time and make sure everyone is prepped and enjoy a meal, online, together.
Another fun Zoom option – host a dance party! Get someone to DJ on Facebook Live and invite your friends and dance the night away like it’s 1999!
